6 Common Mistakes You’re Probably Making With Your K-Beauty Routine
If you’ve created the perfect routine but still see no improvements on your skin, you might be making a few mistakes that are preventing you from achieving that K-beauty glow!
Mistake 1: The way you apply your skin care is wrong
You might be using the right products for your skin, but if you apply your moisturiser by rubbing it on your face too aggressively, it will only contribute to redness, irritation or wrinkles! Instead, when applying most skin care products, you want to use only the fingertips to draw small circles, and make sure not to press too hard or tug at your skin too much, especially around the more sensitive eye area.
Mistake 2: You let your skin dry mid-routine
It’s all about keeping your skin hydrated 24/7! From the first cleansing step, all the way to your last moisturiser, your skin should stay slightly damp throughout the process, because that’s when it is the most absorbent and will soak up nutrients more effectively (picture a damp sponge vs a dry sponge). Even if you have oily skin, I bet you’ve experienced that dry, tight feeling in your skin, especially after cleansing. To prevent this, many Korean women keep a face mist or a toner mist like the Pyunkang Yul Mist Toner close to their cleansers, so they can prevent evaporation and hydrate immediately after cleansing.
Mistake 3: Too Much, Too Soon
While you may be tempted to jump straight in to the 10-step Korean beauty routine, it may actually not be the best idea for your skin. You should introduce new products one at a time, and slowly build a solid skin care regimen based on products that you know work well with your skin. If you’re a complete newbie, start with our 5-Step Kit based on your skin type, and then gradually incorporate more products as you go.
Mistake 4: You neglect the rest of your body
Who else is guilty of spending hundreds of dollars on your face, but still neglecting the rest of your body? If you’re just someone who can’t be bothered getting different products for different parts of your skin, Klairs has a multitasking moisturiser, the Klairs Supple Preparation All Over Lotion, which you can use as a face, body and hand cream, or even a hair conditioner. Other than moisturising, make sure you also apply SPF on exposed areas of your body, and exfoliate (The Neogen Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Wine makes a great face and body exfoliator).
Mistake 5: Over-doing everything
You only have one moisture barrier, so be careful not to destroy it. Its main function is to keep bacteria out and hydration in, which is essential to keep skin troubles away. While cleansing and exfoliating are necessary steps in your K-Beauty routine, make sure to keep your cleansing up to a maximum of two times a day, and exfoliate only 1-3 times a week depending on your skin type!
Mistake 6: Not being consistent
In life, being consistent is the key to doing things well, and that applies to your skin care routine too. This means being patient and giving your products enough time to work. Most of them need at least a month to show results, so if you’re constantly jumping from one new product to another, you’re not giving them enough time to do their job.
