Toners are just as important as cleansers and moisturisers in a skincare regime. It helps maintain your skin’s pH balance (key to healthy skin!) and preps it for other skincare products you’ll be using afterwards. What’s more, a toner doesn’t just work as a toner—it can also work over-overtime in your skincare routine. Here are four ways you can use your favourite toner to transform your skin:
Skin feeling extra dry and tight after cleansing? Hydrating toners like the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner is perfect to use for the ultra-hydrating 7-skin method. If you don’t feel like putting on too much product, 3 layers is a good middle to aim for. All you have to do is pour an appropriate amount of toner onto your palm and gently pat into skin. Repeat this step 6 more times, or until you’re satisfied. Once your skin is hydrated enough, you can even skip to moisturiser and call it a day.
Want to try a new serum or essence, but scared that it might be way too strong? Instead of applying it straight to your skin, dilute it with a few drops of toner. This way, you can still reap the benefits of the serum without shocking your skin.
If you have sensitive skin and find that many “gentle” exfoliators are still too harsh, you can use an exfoliating toner like the Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner, which have impressive exfoliating powers to slough away dead skin cells without leaving your skin irritated. Another tip you can try is also using a textured cotton pad with your toner to duplicate the effect of a physical exfoliator.4. AS A FACE MIST
A few spritzes of a face mist is all it takes to help hydrate and freshen up your skin anytime, anywhere. Especially if you are constantly turning up the AC, or cranking up the heater during winter, be sure to mist liberally every few hours to undo any dryness. Use an empty spray bottle and pour in your favorite toner with a 2:1 ratio of mineral water, and voila, you have yourself a face mist!
Not about the DIY life? You can get the Heimish Bulgarian Rose Water Mist Serum, which works as a toner, mist and serum in one!
Did you know that the secret to a natural spray tan is nothing more than a little bit of toner? To keep any streaking or blotchiness at bay, apply an exfoliating toner onto rough patches of skin, like your elbows and knees, to help soften the area and even out dark patches. Spray tan will adhere more evenly onto smooth, hydrated skin versus skin that’s dry and cracked.
6. AS AN EYE MASK
Woke up with puffy eyes or unwelcomed under eye bags? For a quick DIY eye mask, pour some toner into a cotton pad, and cut it in half for each eye. To boost its refreshing benefits, you can also put the toner in the fridge beforehand, and the cold compress will help reduce any swelling. For dark under eyes, look for brightening toners like the COSRX Galactomyces Alcohol-Free Toner that leaves skin brighter and smoother.
