How to De-Stress with Your Skin Care Routine
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed from looming work deadlines, neverending to-do list and the frantic holiday season on the horizon!
Stress is a part of life—but it doesn’t have to be your life. When you’re stressed, you’re not only affected emotionally and mentally. Your body also releases cortisol, a stress hormone that causes excess oil production and unwanted breakouts on your skin! Taking the time to address and manage stress will help you enormously in the long run. Truth is, you don’t have to pay for an expensive masseuse, or sign up for yoga classes you know you’ll only visit once (guilty?). To keep both mind and skin clear and calm, take an inside-out approach with these super simple stress-reducing tricks:
1. Use Aromatherapy
Fragrances have always had a bad rep in skin care, and it’s true that if your skin reacts negatively to fragrance, you should steer clear of them. However, for everyone else, there are all sorts of essential oils and scents formulated to do a variety of things, from calming, soothing to energising. For example Huxley’s cactus-powered range has one of the most refreshing signature scent, which makes applying skin care feels 100x more therapeutic!
2. Give Yourself a Face Massage
Who doesn’t love a massage? Be a little more hands-on with your skin care by skipping the cotton pads and applying your toner with your palms and pressing firmly on your forehead, chin, and cheeks. While applying moisturiser, you can also use your knuckles to gently massage underneath the cheekbones and along the jaw for that extra lift.
3. Treat Skin As You Snooze
Sometimes, one of the best ways to beat stress is by simply getting a good night's sleep. Make the most out of your skin’s reparative REM cycle by applying a sleeping mask, like the I'm From Magnolia Sleep Mask. Unlike your average moisturiser, sleeping masks are formulated specifically to work with your sleep’s repair system and transform your skin overnight, so you can wake up to a more refreshed complexion, and a clearer mind to boot!
4. Give a Gift
When we’re stressed out, it’s very easy to think only about ourselves and our own worries. So instead of continuously brooding over it, try to step out of that negative bubble and think of the people around you. Notice a family member, friend or coworker who’s also feeling a little under? Do something nice for them, or gift him or her with a soothing mask, like the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Sheet Mask. With soothing ingredients like centella asiatica and willow bark extract, it’ll put their skin and mind at ease. Chances are, this simple gesture will also make you feel better too! :)
Stress can sometimes be unavoidable, but that doesn’t mean you need to let it take over your life. Do you practice any of these simple steps in order to de-stress?
