REVIEW: KLAIRS Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop (Vitamin C Serum)
It’s no secret that vitamin C products are fantastic for your skin. Studies have shown that vitamin C is effective against wrinkles, inflammation, and dark spots. In addition, it limits the production of free radicals, thereby speeding up the your skin's healing process, and reduces melanin production. But the real question is, what’s a good Vitamin C serum to try? There’s certainly a lot in the market, but not many can suit your skin, especially if you’re new to Vitamin C.
The KLAIRS Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop is a Vitamin C serum that claims to be suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin. The concentration of Vitamin C is at 5%, which is gentle enough that even if you’re new to Vitamin C serums, this one is a great one to start with.
Ingredients
When developing this serum, Klairs used Ascorbic Acid (a more stable derivative of Vit C) to help keep your serum fresher for longer, and have a longer shelf life. The Klairs Vitamin Drop contains 5% Ascorbic Acid, which is on the lower side but this doesn't mean that it doesn't achieve results. Higher concentrations of Vitamin C can help target specific skin concerns but can also be quite sensitizing or irritating to the skin. With 5% Ascorbic Acid, this serum is just enough to give you all the benefits of Vitamin C without any of the risks. The formula includes centella asiatica and numerous botanical extracts (e.g. lavender, anise, broccoli, grapefruit, etc.), making it extra soothing and nourishing.
How to Use
Vitamin C is a powerful ingredient, so it’s important to know how to handle it according to your skin type. Here’s what I recommend :
- For normal, combination or oily skin: After cleansing, apply a half pipette of serum on the entire face and neck, and massage in circular motions until it’s completely absorbed
- For sensitive skin: consider using 3 or 4 drops instead of half an eyedropper. Personally, I like to alternate between applying the serum directly on my skin OR mix a few drops in an hydrating serum or cream. This technique may be useful especially if you’re new to VItamin C, and need to start slowly for your skin to get used the product.
One use per day may be sufficient, ideally in the evening before going to bed.
Texture and Consistency
The consistency of the liquid is surprisingly light and a little bit oily. The oily consistency of this serum is actually reminiscent of a facial oil, and this isn't necessarily a bad thing because it means that a little goes a long way with this serum. If you do hate oil on your face, it's nothing to worry about, as it sinks into your skin very quickly.
Results
When I use it, I can feel a little bit of the warmth as the Vitamin C serum soaks into my skin, however there was no tingling or stinging sensation like other high concentrate vitamin c serums do. In a few weeks time, my redness has noticeably reduced, and my skin look healthier, and my scarring and blemishes have faded.
KLAIRS Freshly Juiced Vitamin C Serum Before and After
This serum is great for overall skin healing and repairing, making it great for gradual skin tone and texture improvement, as well as a wonderful anti-aging/ anti-oxidant serum. I think this Vitamin C serum is really suitable for those who are new to vitamin C, or is sensitive to high concentrates of vitamin C, but who still want to enjoy the benefits of vitamin C skincare.
