Ways to prevent dryness in summer
Hello, summer! The sun’s out and it’s finally the perfect season to spend time outdoors. But whether you’re tanning at the beach or having fun at pool parties, consider what damage these activities can do to your skin. You still want to flaunt that healthy glow while wearing sundresses, don’t you?
There are various reasons why our skin tend to suffer from dryness during summer. The main reason is, as you may have guessed, due to sunlight exposure. But if you think staying indoors with the air conditioner on is a solution, then you’re wrong. Air conditioners are known to make your skin dry and dull. Swimming pools may not be your skin’s best friend as well because they contain a chemical element called chlorine, which makes your skin dry and tight.
Then how should we take care of our dry skin during this hot season? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with this daily routine that can keep your skin as healthy as ever!
MORNING
- Avoid long, steamy shower
Who doesn’t love a hot shower? Your dry skin, apparently. Your skin needs its natural oils to maintain its moist. Hot showers washes of those oils, leaving your skin dry. Especially in the summer where your skin tends to become tighter due to sunlight, try taking shorter showers using cooler water. It’s best to start the day with a healthy, hydrated skin!
- Dry your body gently
Don’t rub your towel roughly against your skin when drying your body. This can cause damage to the skin, particularly when it’s suffering from dryness. Be gentle.
- Don’t forget the sunscreen!
Applying sunscreen is an extremely important step in your routine. It protects your skin from dryness, wrinkles, aging, and much more. Use one that has SPF 30 or higher, and apply 20-30 minutes before going out.
DAY
- Drink! Drink! Drink!
Keeping your skin hydrated from the outside is not enough if you don’t keep yourself hydrated from the inside. Drink 8-12 glasses of water per day in this sunny season. It helps keeping your skin hydrated and getting rid of those chapped lips.
- Reapply your sunscreen
It has been advised that you should reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours for maximum effect. Don’t forget to reapply after swimming as well!
NIGHT
- Face mask time!
Use a hydrating face mask 2-3 times per week. Masks that contain hyaluronic acid is good to keep your skin hydrated. THANKYOUFARMER has one that is perfect for your dry skin!
