5 Ways to Reuse and Repurpose Your Skin Care Containers

5 Ways to Reuse and Repurpose Empty Skin Care Containers

Transform your empty skin care containers into something useful with these creative repurposing ideas!

Every skin care addict has met this same problem at least once in their life: What should I do with the empty containers left behind by my favourite toner, moisturiser or exfoliator? Instead of chucking them away, turn your empties into new items you can actually use by following these simple repurposing tips:

1. Save jars and bottles for planting flowers or plants

Instead of leaving empty skin care containers to sit on your shelves collecting dust, why not use them to pot flowers and plants? Wide-rimmed jars like the Neogen Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling Wine can be used to pot succulents, while taller, thinner bottles can make beautiful vases for flowers. Simply wash them out with warm water and soap to make sure that they’re free of any skin care product before filling them in with lukewarm water or soil. Easy peasy!

2. Use empty foundation cushions as SPF cushions

If you’re looking to reapply your sunscreen throughout the day without ruining your makeup, use an empty cushion foundation! After taking out and cleaning the foundation-filled puff, empty the cushion to squeeze some sunscreen into the puff casing. Reinsert the clean sponge, and ta-da, your new SPF cushion is ready to use!

3. Save empty containers for DIY skin care

DIY skin care like body scrubs or face masks can be super fun to make, but a headache to store. Instead of going out of your way to buy new storage bottles, simply pot them into your old skin care empties!

4. Use empties for travel

Never chuck away empty skin care containers that are travel-sized! When you’re finished with the product, just clean out the container so you can re-pot your own products into these little bottles, and save the money that it would take to get a new travel set.

5. Repurpose them as storage… or anything, really

Honestly, skin care containers can be used to store pretty much anything, especially small fiddly items like hair ties, clips, safety pins or buttons. If you have a large enough glass container, you can even pop in a few wooden reeds to make it a diffuser!

There’s so many different, creative ways to repurpose or reuse your empty skin care containers. However, if you’re not the crafty type, just recycling your empties will do! Glass, cardboard and plastic can all be recycled, so just give your empty skin care container a quick rinse before tossing it in the recycling bin. If you do a quick Google search, some beauty brands might even have their own dedicated recycling program!

Using a container to store all the plastic spatulas to save them from having to be recycled and you can always find one.

I have one container for clean and one for used and wash them once a week (I have collected quite a few, they add up quickly)
